Updated: November 16, 2007

We have worked with the WIAA since the Club was formed to ensure that our structure and relationship with AMHS coaches and players is in compliance with WIAA Out-of-Season Rules.  The WIAA has again given us the green light for 2008.

Jim,

Based upon the limitations you listed below, no WIAA rules would be violated for you to continue your involvement as Director of the Mill Creek Volleyball Club.

I hope you have a Happy Thanksgiving next week!

I am planning to again serve as Director of the Mill Creek VB Club this year.  The Club will rent the gym at AMHS to practice, and while membership is not limited to AMHS students,  several  AMHS players and younger players from the Feeder schools will participate.  Since I am hoping to be invited back to coach the HS team again next year, I would like to make sure that this activity is compliant with the WIAA requirements.

My role would be the same as in previous years.  As Club Director I coordinate schedules, administer budgets,  oversee the coaching staff, serve as Gym Manager and referee tournament matches that do not involve our players.  I do not have any coaching responsibilities or coaching contact with the players.

Please let me know if this arrangement is still allowable under WIAA regulations or if there are any changes that would require me to make adjustments.

Thanks!

The WIAA out-of-season rules have not changed, so provided your responsibilities with the club continue to be administrative only (no coaching), you would not be violating any WIAA rules.

Hi Cindy!

I want to check with you again this year regarding my participation in the USAV Mill Creek Volleyball Club.  To refresh,  I am an Assistant Volleyball coach at Archbishop Murphy and the Club Director of MC VBC.  Many of our AMHS kids play for the club.   My role is the same as last year - no coaching responsibilities or coaching contact with players.  I believe that it is still an appropriate level of participation and does not violate WIAA out of season rules.  Unless the rules have changed.  Which is why I like to confirm it with you before the start of every Club season.  I have included last year's description and your response in case you are interested in a little more detail.

Thanks and Happy Holidays!

Jim,

From what you have described below, you have covered all the bases and your plan fits within WIAA rules and regulations (no violations of the WIAA out-of-season rules in the proposal below.)

Thanks for checking!

Hi Cindy,

Just to refresh you on my situation, I am the Assistant Volleyball Coach at Archbishop Murphy HS, and hope to be invited back next year. I also founded the Mill Creek Volleyball Club last year, where a lot of the AMHS kids played under USAV. We are getting ready to fire up the club again to begin play after the New Year. What I am proposing is the same arrangement as we discussed last year, but I want to make sure that nothing has changed that I need to consider or address.

I would again serve as Director of the MCVBC where I would be
responsible for administrative tasks such as scheduling practice times & tournaments, handling finances, overseeing the coaches, and refereeing tournament matches that do not involve our players. I would not have any coaching responsibilities or coaching contact with the players. Last time we spoke I was concerned about finding coaches, but I wassince able to tap into the Boeing Employees Volleyball Association to line up a good group of coaches so this is not going to be an issue.

The club is chartered independently from the school, so it is registered
with the State of Washington and USAV, has it's own bank accounts and web site, pays a rental fee when it uses the AMHS gym and other sites for practices, buys it's own uniforms and supplies, and none of the coaches are members of AMHS faculty, staff or coaching ranks.

I believe that what I have planned is compliant with WIAA rules, and
would appreciate if you could confirm this - or let me know if anything
I said raises a red flag.

Thanks!
